try getting layers that lightens the hair so then that makes it easier for curls and waves to stay in it. get something that helps make hair wavy. like sunsilk has a product that call wave of envy or something like that, i heard that its good. try air drying your hair so its just a little damp, then spray the product and use a hair dryer with a defusser. scrunch while drying.Hair advice? how do i spruce up my boring straight hair?

curl it with a Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron to get gorgeous full bodied hair! hope this helps!
I know the answer to that because i used to ask that same question this is what you do,
Take a straightner and try to twist it around it make it look like you have volume
Or another choice is when you take a shower scrunch your hair with curling mousse.
or a curling iron and then hairspray it but not too much because then itll be hard and unnatural
a fab natural way to get it to go lighter is to spray lemon juice all over your hair and comb it thru then blow dry your hair, itll make it quite sticky and you'll have to condition it well but it gets quicker results than leaving it to the sun and will keep it really clean too!!
with regards to style i used to do 3 things regularly to keep my hair interesting when it was long and straight:
1) curling just the ends with straighteners or heated rollers
2) french plait/plait it wet before you go to bed to get beach waves-which should stay in all day
3) twist it really tightly into tiny buns and pin it to your head with grips when wet and then let it down in the morning!!
