I had the same problem because I had very thick, pin straight hair and what i did was i used Herbal Essences tottaly twisted mousse. This product may look cheap but it will definatly help you get polished waves. To get polished waves all you haave to do is apply this to your hair when it is damp, then scrunch it throughout your hair with your fingers, then let your hair air-dry into polished waves.

My hair is really straight to and I love putting curls in it. Wash your hair before you go to bed and while its wet put curling jell with a strong hold and a little hair spray, part it into different little sections and braid it . Go to sleep with it like that when you wake and take the braids out you should have waves.
What i do, my hair is already naturally wavy though, is after i take a shower(at night time) and braid your hair into several braids all over your head, and then put hairspray or mousse on every single braid, then sleep in them, i suggest doing it about 30min-1hr before bed because it takes a while. It does wonders!
I have the same exact problem!!
my hair will only hold a curl from a curling iron for like 30 min
so sometimes i take a shower at night and wrap sections of my hair in twisty buns and hairspray them while they are wet
in the morning i re-hairspray them and they look great!
plus i dont have to do like anything in the morning so i can sleep longer!!!
I srunch my hair. like when its wet, I put in aussi styling gel and then srunch it and hold the scrunch with clips and things. It works reallyyyy well.
i hav that same problem! What you can do is take a shower and than put in ur favorite mouse or gel and schrunch ur hair up and down with ur hands
