How do I get natural looking wavy hair?

I have stubbornly straight hair and simply cannot get it to curl, or at least well, with a curling iron and I really want to have natural looking waves in my hair for special occasions and such. I am afraid that the braiding my hair or doing anything before bed doesn't work because I have to wash my hair in the morning to keep it clean. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to get this kind of look without excessive hassle?How do I get natural looking wavy hair?

wash your hair at night then wear it in a braid if that wont work braid your hair in the morning after you take a shower and blow it dry like that
after you wash your hair, quickly put it up in a bun (this adds a little wave)... take it out a little after wards and scrunch your hair...... than take a brush and curl it while drying it
