How do I get beach waves with SUPER straight hair?

My hair is thick and STRAIGHT i never have to straighten it, it never holds curls and *sigh* i can't get summer beach waves. I can't do the whole scrunch with mousse look either cause my hair just goes straight and piecy. Can any suggest products/ideas that will help me get that look? How do I get beach waves with SUPER straight hair?
I have naturally straight hair that doesn't hold a curl well, so to get beachy waves, I do one of two things:

(1) When my hair is wet, I put it into one or two braids, let it air dry, then remove the braid(s) when hair is dry.

(2) When hair is wet, I towel dry, then apply mousse. I then use a hairdryer to completely dry my hair. Afterwards, I separate my hair down the middle into two sections. For each section, twist the hair until it forms a bun, then secure with an elastic. I leave it in overnight, or for a few hours. When I remove the buns, the hair is wavy. How do I get beach waves with SUPER straight hair?
hi ya well there r a few ways no 1 wash your hair then put a bit of mousse then blast dry then u can use a flat iron ghd if ya have one get a section not too big wrap around one finger put a brown hair pin in it to keep it in place then put the ghd on it leave the pin in it move to your next section when your finished take the pins out and u should have a nice wave if thats too much work get a tongs small if ya can take smaller sections and wrap the hair up the tongs leave for 10 sec and un raval let me know if they work if not i have lots of other ways ya can try
I have a long hair and whenever I wanted to curl my hair without using curling iron (I prefer it this way);

* After washing my hair with John Frieda collection ';Frizz-Ease庐 Curl Around Shampoo and Conditioner, http://walmart.triaddigital.com/enhanced鈥?/a>

* Then I use Dream Curls庐 curl perfecter (John Frieda Collection product), spray it on my damp hair from roots to ends, crunching it while drying http://www.johnfrieda.com/images/product鈥?/a>

* Then I use paper towel instead of a curling iron or roller. Crunch the paper towel then wrap your hair around the paper towel just like you would on a roller or curling iron, roll it on a desired length and thickness,

----- then tie it on slowly (paper towel might break)

----- then once all hair are tied-up, blow dry it with warm air to cool until it's dry

----- and then spraying it with Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hair Spray (product by John Frieda Collection) http://www.sacks.com.br/filesupload/%7B1鈥?/a>

----- leave it on for 2hrs. %26amp; blow drying it with cool air every 15 minutes,

----- take off the paper towels after desired time,

----- and then I rub a shine serum (a quarter size amount) between my palms and lightly lift the waves and avoiding scrunching (brushing like strokes gently)

----- and then spraying it again with Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hair Spray.
i also have super straight hair...and its really hard to keep waves up. i did though once tried the old fashioned way of curling hair by using clothe pieces. have you heard of that? you could also try (probably you have already though) curlying iron with LOTS of spray....it kinda sucks but it stays at least for a couple hours. good luck and post some ideas if u find out of any.

=)
Have you tried braiding your hair while it's wet? Put some mousse/gel in wet hair and braid it in sections. Use smaller braids for tighter waves or thicker braids for larger waves. When you pull apart the braids, the hair is crimped, but not curled. Just fingerstyle it and you're ready to go.
try putting rollers in your hair the night before thentake them out in the morning. take some hair spray and sray it on your hands and work it into your hair. (wash your hands though, that stuff sucks) it'll be curly then, and try pulling it out a little.

that makes it kind of stiff though.
Try braiding it and apply the mousse after you you braid it.
use hot rollers or velcro rollers
